Volunteering with the Saint Louis Zoo

PGAV-VIA

As part of our PGAVIA Program, PGAV Destinations recently spent the weekend with the Saint Louis Zoo creating enrichment items for some of its creative and curious residents.

The team’s efforts focused on creating fire hose enrichment items for the zoo’s tigers and lions, as well as painting paper mache pumpkins for the primates. Fire hose is a very is a very stubborn material, often forcing our team to slam it over and over again against the floor to soften it into place (although reportedly that was a very fun assignment). With donated fire hose, the item is very cost effective for a zoo to produce – under $10 per “ball.”

The team had a fantastic time working with and learning from the very passionate Zoo staff and learning their process for seeking and creating new enrichment items for their animals.
